Valentine’s Day Waffles + Pink Syrup

Hello! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I haven’t gotten half the things done for it that I wanted to! Where does the time go?! I think tonight my kids and I will sit down and make up Valentine cards together. We still need to make up their Valentine boxes as well. Do you make Valentine boxes for your kiddos? Some of the ones I see are amazing! Ours are always very simple. I help the kids cover a shoe box with paper and make a slit and than they decorate them using stickers and glue and crafting supplies. They aren’t fancy but the kids have fun so that’s good enough for me:)

THIS, however, is something fancy I can make for them:) I always like to make them fun Valentine themed foods and this is a new one created this year. Valentine Waffles with Pink Syrup! I got this scrumptious syrup recipe from my sister a few years ago and just this year I realized it’d be easy to add food coloring and make it festive for the holiday! I can’t wait to do green for St. Patrick’s Day next. Hmmmmm….I wonder what fruit would go well with green syrup? Make sure to comment below and give me ideas if you have any!

The waffles are simple. Make up your usual favorite waffle recipe and then add a drop of red food coloring. It will make them a little pink’ish in color. I love easy things like this as a parent! It makes me the cool mom without any stress 🙂

Whipped cream and strawberries garnished on top and then this decadent pink syrup….mmmmmm.

Pink Tangy Syrup

  • 1 cube real butter (not margarine)
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1-3 drops red food coloring (more drops =hot pink & less drops=baby pink)

Combine butter, sugar and sour cream in a large saucepan. Cook and stir with a whisk over medium heat until butter is melted and it is smooth and bubbling. Add vanilla and red food coloring and mix well. Add the baking soda and be ready for the mixture to double in size as it bubbles up. Remove from heat and keep stirring until it is done frothing. Serve warm over pancakes, french toast, waffles, etc. Store leftovers in an airtight container in refrigerator. Microwave for about a minute (or until warm) before use each time.
